The Difficult Road

I came across this quote recently, and I realized how much truth there was contained in it. I personally have experienced a very challenging season this past year, but I can attest that where I am now – even though I have not fully arrived in my spiritual and emotional maturity – is so much better than where I was in an earlier season of my life.

I offer this quote and my personal reflections in the hope that they might encourage at least one person reading this today. Things will get better! God has a plan, even when it seems to be invisible to our natural eyes.

Dear Lord, in retrospect I can now thank You for the difficult roads on which I have traveled in my life. I thank You for the lessons learned, and for the way that these trials have drawn me closer to You.

Also, I thank You for the greater peace that I’m experiencing in my life. Even though my outward circumstances have not changed in any significant way, I’m trusting You for today and each day following, as I know that – so long as I keep walking –  I am headed toward a beautiful destination designed by You. In Your name I pray, Amen.

  1. This is so beautiful. The way we should be, thankful for ALL things. It’s easy to be thankful when it’s all rainbows and lollipops but we know life isn’t always that way. There are trials, but if we are open like you have written about here, we will receive that lesson, and grow closer to Him. God Bless you always :):)

    1. “Rainbows and lollipops” – I love that! I’ll have to borrow that term for sure. 🙂 You’re right, though – How much harder it is for us to express our gratitude to the Lord when times are hard. It’s hard, but not impossible, when we remember that He is sovereignly in control of all things.
