So today was a doozy of a day. I know that I was not alone in this impression; several people with whom I spoke today mentioned that this Monday was a particularly rough start to the week.

Anyway, I had a couple of things that did not go the way that I expected them to, and I was feeling a little grumpy, admittedly. However, this situation led me to seek help and another place; and the man who helped me in the new place was so kind, warm, and welcoming, that my bad mood completely disappeared!

There was something in his demeanor – joy, peace, and contentment – that was infectious. I was coming to this man for help, and some of his joy and goodwill spilled over to me.

Not only that, after he finished helping me, I asked him, “How much do I owe you?” His reply? “Nothing!” I was stunned. Grateful, yet stunned.

I must say that my mood was greatly improved after this encounter. What a difference one person with a positive mindset can make! As this quote says, “Every day may not be good, but there’s good in every day.” Sometimes, we have to be proactive and look for the good around us, or be open to receiving it.

Experiences like these are the diamonds in life. And just like a diamond is valuable because it is rare and difficult to find, so are the unexpectedly good experiences in our lives. So I encourage you – keep an eye open for the diamonds in your life. Chances are, there are more around you than you may at first realize!

Dear Lord, thank You for changing my mood today. The man who helped me this afternoon was so very kind and thoughtful – his sincere and kind disposition really changed my attitude (for the better!) today.

Help me to keep my eyes open and ears attentive for the spiritual “diamonds” in my life. Even when things seem challenging, remind me to keep an eye out for the good – it’s always there! In Your name I pray, Amen.
